Science City’s On the Road Program Visits Summit Christian Academy

(Lee’s Summit, MO) – In preparation for Summit Christian Academy’s annual elementary science fair, the 5th grade students recently delved into a unit study of the scientific method that culminated with a visit from Science City’s On the Road Program.

“The hands-on workshop allows the students to experience the scientific process in an engaging and relevant way,” said SCA 5th grade teacher Mrs. Michelle Bacon.  “The experience is then further put into practice as the students create and execute their own experiments for the science fair.”

Science City’s On the Road Program brings smart robots to the classroom to help students develop critical thinking skills using LEGO Mindstorm robotics.

“The combination of building robots and writing programming on laptops is very challenging and exciting for the students,” said Bacon.

Students were grouped into teams, and then assembled, programed and tested their robots to see which robot would be the last one standing.“It was really good,” commented SCA 5th grader Ryan Wagy.  “I learned how to do some different programming that was challenging.

“I thought that it was cool that we could build robots with Legos and program them,” said SCA 5th grader Katie Heard.
