Summit Christian Academy Student Receives Literary Honors

(Lee’s Summit, MO) – Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is excited to announce that SCA junior Zewen Zheng recently authored the Chinese introductions for the newly published book, The Scarecrow of Oz, one of The Wizard of Oz series books.  The publication is the result of an initiative of the Western Literature Promotion Project (WLPP), which promotes select western literature as recommended reading for students in secondary schools and colleges in China.

“Zewen’s experience as a student at Summit Christian Academy has established her as prime candidate for the task,” said SCA International Program Director Kathy Tharp.  “Zewen is a Cadet Language Teacher in Mandarin class and has shown giftedness in teaching.”

The WLPP search committee received more than 50 applications from individuals with a command of English and Chinese languages to write the introduction for this book, including college and graduate students majoring in English Literature, and even professors.

“Zewen’s student experience of studying in America impressed us greatly at first glance,” said Committee Chair of Western Literature Promotion Project and Associate President of Tsinghua University Press, Xianhe Lu.  “During our interviews, it was agreed that Zewen would be the right person to write the Chinese introductions to The Scarecrow of Oz.”

Zewen has been invited to attend the WLPP’s Charity Book Fair in Beijing later this month, where she will be a guest speaker to young students.  The Charity Book Fair raises funds and collects books for children in impoverished areas in China.

“We are very proud of Zewen’s accomplishment,” said Mrs. Tharp.  “We anticipate that she will continue to soar in all her educational goals.”
