Summit Christian Academy Student Places First in Lincoln-Douglas Debate

(Lee’s Summit, MO) – Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is pleased to announce that SCA Junior Logan Kenepaske took first place overall in Lincoln-Douglas Debate and third place in student congress last weekend in the Lee’s Summit High School Open Debate tournament.   Both novice and varsity teams participated.

Lincoln-Douglas debate, named for the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas Debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas, is a type of one-on-one debate that places a heavy emphasis on logic, ethical values, and philosophy.   For the tournament, Logan debated whether the civil right to vote should be a mandated obligation.

“Logan was well-prepared and did an excellent job,” said Secondary Speech and Debate coach Mrs. Anne Mussati.  “He was both charged, and poised during the tournament.”
