(Lee’s Summit) – Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is pleased to announce that Senior Josiah Ruiz Esparza has been awarded the National Forensic League’s (NFL) Academic All-American Award. This award is given to seniors who have competed in the NFL while maintaining academic excellence.

“Josiah has been involved with debate all four years of his high school career and has earned the rank of Superior Distinction in the NFL with 855 total points accumulated,” said SCA Secondary Speech and Debate Teacher and Coach Anne Mussatti. “Josiah has proven to be a stand-out scholar and well-rounded student, with involvement in soccer, band, theater productions, and the Lee’s Summit Youth Court program.”

In order to be considered for the Academic All-American Award, students must demonstrate outstanding character and leadership, complete at least five semesters of high school, receive an ACT score of 27 or higher or an SAT score of 2000 or higher, earn a 3.7 on a 4.0 scale, and qualified for the degree of Superior Distinction in the NFL.

“Josiah has been offered a full scholarship to the College of the Ozarks and plans to go into Law Enforcement with the goal of becoming a detective,” said Mrs. Mussatti. “Josiah is only the second member of our team to receive an Academic All-American award! I am very proud of his accomplishment.”
