Summit Christian Academy 7th Grader Qualifies for National Spelling Bee

(Lee’s Summit, MO)- Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is pleased to announce that 7th grade student Matthew Mitchell recently won 1st place in the Association of Christian Schools International (ASCI) South-Central Regional Spelling Bee and will be competing in the National Spelling Bee. This was Matthew’s third year competing in the bee.

“We are very proud of Matthew’s accomplishment,” said Elementary Principal and Academic Dean Mrs. Kimberlee Gill. “He is a disciplined student and it is exciting to see him do well at this level.”

There were 18 rounds of competition where students vied to be one of the top 5 finishers. Matthew will advance to the national competition scheduled for May 3 in Plano, Texas.

“The competition will be fierce at the national level, but we know that Matthew will be prepared to meet the challenge,” offered Mrs. Gill.
