SCA Senior Carolyn Herrera is recognized as a National Merit Scholar Semifinalist.

(Lee’s Summit) – Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is pleased to announce that Senior Carolyn Herrera has been recognized as a National Merit Scholar semifinalist. Carolyn will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for one of approximately 8,200 National Merit Scholarship Awards, worth close to $33 million, to be offered next spring. Semifinalists come from the top 3-4% of students taking the test, making Carolyn one of approximately 16,000 semifinalists throughout the United States.

National Merit Scholars are determined by the PSAT test, which is a good predictor of how students will score on the SAT college entrance exam. In addition, they must consistently have a very high academic record, write an essay, be endorsed by a school official, and earn a SAT score that confirms their PSAT performance.

Carolyn is the daughter of Gerardo & Karen Herrera. Carolyn is active in the SCA Speech and Debate Team, Concert Chorale, Junior-Senior Ensemble, Theatre, and the International Thespian Society. Carolyn is also a National Hispanic Scholarship recipient.
