SCA Student Shines at National Dance Competition

SCA seventh grade student Aliya Finch won third place at Dance America Grand National Finals in Chicago.

(Lee’s Summit) – Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is pleased to announce that seventh grader Aliya Finch recently competed at the Dance America Grand National Finals in Chicago and won third place in the junior dance jazz category. Over 30 dance companies from across the country and Canada attended the competition in July.

“It was hard work and fun,” said Aliya. “I was very happy and surprised when I learned that I won third place. There was a lot of competition from all over,” Aliya added.

Aliya, who was a semifinalist for Dancer of the Year in the junior division, has been dancing for 11 years. She qualified to attend the competition after she took first place in the jazz category at regionals in Kansas City. Aliya trains at Dancin’ 2 Wynn School of Dance in Raytown.

SCA fifth grade student Katie Coats also qualified to compete in Chicago in the petite dancer musical theatre category, and was a semifinalist for Dancer of the Year in her division.

Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is an independent, nondenominational Christian school serving over 790 preschool through high school students.
