The Summit Christian Academy Eagles will enter the fall and winter seasons excited about the fresh talent on the varsity coaching staff.

SCA has hired Mat Rieckhoff as the junior high athletic director, varsity wrestling coach, and PE teacher. Coach Rieckhoff has been the assistant wrestling coach at the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire where he also wrestle collegiately. He was a four-year varsity starter and team captain, 2x national qualifier, and has the 6th most wins in school history. This past year he worked at the Rawhide Boys Ranch, a Christian ranch for troubled boys. Former head coach, Todd Campbell, will continue in an assistant position, noting that the addition of Coach Rieckhoff “will help the program continue to grow and improve.”

John Gray, a LS West chemistry and physics teacher, joins the SCA coaching staff as the varsity boys’ soccer coach. Coach Gray started his soccer coaching career in 1985 at Eagle Heights Christian School. From there, he has coached in South Korea, Atchison High School, and most recently at Tri-City Christian. Coach Gray has also coached track and field, cross country, softball, and basketball at numerous schools.

Kara Totzke, SCA ’09 alum and former volleyball assistant coach, will lead the girls’ varsity volleyball program this fall. Coach Totzke assisted former coach, Mikki Shearer, for several seasons and looks forward to stepping up to the head coach position. Coach Totzke is grateful to continue to work with Coach Shearer who will continue on in an advisory role.

SCA is happy to announce that Coach Stephen “Monti” Montisano will lead the varsity softball program. Coach Monti joined the SCA coaching staff last year, assisting baseball coach John Gage as they led the baseball team to 2nd place in the MSHSAA state tournament. Coach Monti recently graduated with a degree in Sports Communication from Avila University where he also played collegiate baseball.

Athletic Director Lance Quessenberry knows their capabilities will become a valuable part of the SCA coaching staff. “Coaches Rieckhoff, Totzke, Montisano, and Gray are all great additions to our staff. Each has the knowledge and abilities to continue the goal of excellence we strive for in everything we do at SCA. I’m excited to have each of them on staff and look forward to working with them on a day to day basis.”
