(Lee’s Summit, MO) – On Friday, April 22, some of the most decorated high school athletes will descend on Lawrence, Kansas for the prestigious KU Relays. Only the best of the best from high schools within 500 miles from any Kansas border will be in attendance. Such stringent qualifications refine the competition to a list consisting of 30-40 top athletes from the Midwest in each event. Six athletes from Summit Christian Academy will be included in this honorable event:

Carlie Queen, now a junior at SCA and co-captain of the Eagles team, returns to the KU Relays as the defending champion in the High Jump event. Queen is a two-time State Champion for Class 2 in the High Jump. Queen broke the state record in her first visit to state as a freshman and now carries a best mark of
5’9 3/4″ in her event. Recently, she gained All-American status as a medalist in the New Balance Indoor Nationals in New York. Queen is currently ranked 1st in the state in the High Jump, not only for Class 2 but all of Missouri. Queen is also ranked 2nd in the Pole Vault for Class 2 in Missouri.

Lenetta Lee, an SCA freshman, runs with lightning speed to earn a spot on the list of accepted entries for the KU Relays in the 100m dash. In her first year competing at the varsity level for the Eagles, Lee is proving her value by claiming on average 30-40 points each meet. Lee is currently ranked 1st in the state for Class 2 in the 100m, 200m, and the Long Jump events. She carries impressive best marks of 12.19 in the 100m, 25.58 in the 200m, and 17’9″ in the Long Jump.

Summit Christian’s 4×800 girls relay team is among the elite group to qualify for the KU Relays and has tasted success before at the MSHSAA Class 2 State Championships last May, where they placed 6th on the medal stand with a time of 10:19.31. Members include team co-captain Elizabeth Stratton, Kaylee Lunn, Annelise Parke, and Carmen Fanning. Current standings from athletic.net rank this relay team as 4th in the state of Missouri for Class 2 in the final weeks leading into the post season.
