SCA Senior Sam Chinnery was recognized as a National Merit Scholar Semifinalist.

(LEE’S SUMMIT, MO) – Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is pleased to announce that Senior Sam Chinnery has been recognized as a National Merit Scholar semifinalist. Sam has been a student at SCA since Kindergarten. National Merit Scholars are determined by the PSAT test, which is a good predictor of how students will score on the SAT college entrance exam.

“Sam is a phenomenal young man,” shared SCA Secondary Principal & Director of Operations Joe Hesman. “Not only is Sam strong academically, he is a talented musician and plays in SCA’s chapel worship band.”

Semifinalists come forth from the top 3-4% of students taking the test. In addition, they must have a consistently very high academic record, write an essay, be endorsed and recommended by a school official, and earn a score on the SAT that confirms the PSAT performance. As a semifinalist, Sam is one of the highest scoring entrants from Missouri.

Over the summer, Mr. Hesman spent a few days with Sam during the Senior Mission trip to Denver, Colorado. “Sam is a student that has great character. He is quick to open up his heart and truly cares about others,” shared Hesman.

The announcement of the 2017 National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in 2017. The winners will be posted in news releases all over the country.
