(Lee’s Summit, MO) – Summit Christian Academy (SCA) recently named secondary Vocal Music teacher Trissa Lucht as SCA’s 2018 Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made recently at an all-school assembly.

Parents, students, and staff had the opportunity to nominate a teacher who has shown excellence in fulfilling SCA’s mission to “inspire students to achieve their God-given potential through excellent academics and Christian training in a compassionate environment.”

100 nominations included 34 different teachers, from which six were selected as finalists. Finalists included Secondary Bible Teacher Wayne Stam, Secondary Math Teacher Matt Shelton, Secondary Vocal Music Teacher Trissa Lucht, Secondary Social Studies Teacher Greg Finch, Fourth Grade Teacher Chandra Brownlee, and First Grade Teacher Sheri Stiglic.

Mrs. Lucht has been a teacher at SCA for the past 13 years. She is married to Jeffrey Lucht and they have two children- Adam, who graduated from SCA in 2017 and is studying at Evangel University, and Sami, who is a sophomore at SCA.

“I cannot tell you how blessed I was to read the stories and comments our parents, students, faculty, and staff shared in their nominations. We are greatly blessed to have such an amazing faculty,” said SCA Head of School Linda Harrelson. “Because of her love for music, her concern for her students, and her desire to share the gift of music with them, our Secondary music program has increased greatly under her leadership. The SCA Choirs, under Mrs. Lucht’s direction, have performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City three times. This is a huge testimony to her musical and educational gifts and talents. Especially significant is Mrs. Lucht’s passion and ability to bring student athletes into the music program. She works closely with athletes, coaches, and athletic directors to work around athletic schedules as much as possible.”

Mrs. Lucht was given a plaque, a designated parking place at SCA, and monetary award.  SCA’s Teacher of the Year will be submitted to the Great Plains Alliance of Christian Schools (GPACS) meeting for the GPACS Teacher of the Year. The winner will be announced in late August or early September.
