Summit Christian Academy Recognizes Spelling Bee Winners

(Lee’s Summit, MO) – Summit Christian Academy (SCA) recently held its annual spelling bee and three elementary students emerged as the crème de la crème among spellers.

Seventh grade student Abigail Shanahan was the first-place winner, fourth grade student Leo Butler placed second, and second grade student Lyrica Arroya placed third, making them the top three winners for SCA.


A total of 45 students in grades 2-8 participated in the spelling bee, 18 of whom have also qualified for districts. The ACSI district spelling bee will be on January 31, 2020 at Maranatha Christian Academy in Shawnee, Kansas.


Those SCA students continuing to districts also include third grade students Sadie Lovins, Brooklyn McCarty, and Eli Mankin; fourth grade students Sophia Ruiz, Makayla Welch, and Leo Butler; fifth grade students Jimmy Shettleroe, Bella Arroyo, and Rylie Friess; sixth grade students Jett Nickell, Jane Stout, and Colton Kennemore; seventh grade students Charli Hinton, Manuel Elizondo, and Abigail Shanahan; and eighth grade students Anna Hammond, Jisue Kim, and Adrian Haack.
