SCA was recently recognized by Starlight Theatre and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City with three nominations for Blue Star Awards. SCA’s fall musical performance of Hello Dolly! was nominated for lighting design, hair and makeup, and senior Lucy Belcher was nominated for best female ensemble member.

“We are so proud of all our students. Hello, Dolly! was a huge undertaking but the cast, crew, and orchestra worked together to create a fantastic show,” said SCA Theater Arts Teacher Emily Stam. “We are excited to see their hard work recognized in this way.”

The Blue Star program recognizes outstanding achievement in musical theatre production and performance among high school students. The program’s goal remains bringing together high school musical theatre programs in metropolitan Kansas City and outlying areas to recognize and celebrate outstanding talent among the area youth. By participating in the Blue Star Awards Program, students receive feedback from working professionals and interact on a creative level with their high school peers from across the metropolitan area.

“As always, I am so proud of our students. These nominations are truly a testimony to the hard work and dedication that each member of the cast and crew put forth from the first rehearsal to the last show! We have amazing students at SCA!” commented Lucht.

“Jane Stiglic is SCA’s ORIGINAL teacher,” said Linda Harrelson SCA Administrator. “When the school opened in 1989, Mrs. Stiglic was the very first teacher hired. She set the bar high and helped us develop a strong educational and spiritual foundation. She is not only a teacher at SCA but a pillar to our school, faculty, and staff, and all of the students who have been part of our school over the years.”

Mrs. Stiglic committed to teach at SCA before there was a place to meet and before there were any students. She took a leap of faith, trusting that God was with the school and desired to be part of what He was going to do. She jumped in wholeheartedly and has been an integral part of the SCA staff ever since.

That first year, Mrs. Stiglic had 15 students in a half-day Kindergarten class. She saw the program grow quickly and soon was teaching one of three Kindergarten classes. After teaching Kindergarten for 14 years, she moved up to 2nd grade nine years ago.

Mrs. Stiglic helped lead the SCA staff through many changes, including expanding half-day Kindergarten to a full-day program. She is a Master Educator who has a knack for bringing her classroom to life using her love of learning and a flare for the dramatic. She has a reputation for bringing out the best in her students. She loves them unconditionally and they know it. As a result, they do their best for her.

Mrs. Stiglic has a love for the Lord that is contagious. She is concerned about sharing the Gospel with her students and encouraging them to love, honor, and serve Him. She is often heard complimenting a student for Christ-like behavior.

A gathering to recognize Mrs. Stiglic will be held in the elementary building at 1450 SW Jefferson on May 15 from 3:45 – 5:30 p.m. where refreshments will be served. She will be honored for her 23 years of service to SCA students and families. We invite you to join SCA in congratulating her and wishing her a fun and rewarding retirement.

“While I am happy that Mrs. Jane Stiglic will be enjoying relaxing mornings, time with her husband Jim, and lots of fun time with her grandson Jack, I am very sad to see her go,” commented Administrator Linda Harrelson. “Mrs. Stiglic has played a vital role in the success of our program. As our very first teacher, she welcomed every new teacher to our ranks and helped encourage, mentor, and lead our faculty through years of incredible growth. She embraced new ideas, recognizing their value to the students that she loves so much.”

Mrs. Stiglic has been married to Jim Stiglic for 40 years. Their son Steve followed in his mother’s footsteps and is a 3rd grade teacher in the Ray-Pec School District. Daughter-in-law, Sheri, was a 3rd grade teacher at SCA for ten years and currently teaches a Pre-Kindergarten class. Mrs. Stiglic will join the ranks of the SCA Golden Eagles Grandparent Organization next year, as grandson Jack joins SCA as a preschool student. The school looks forward to her continued involvement.
