Eagles Baseball Wins Conference

(Lee’s Summit, MO) – The Summit Christian Academy Eagles baseball team claimed the Crossroads Conference championship on May 7 with victories over Barstow, Heritage Christian, and Sherwood.

A nine-run explosion in the third inning of the quarterfinals against Barstow lifted the Eagles to a 17-1 win in five innings. The Eagles scored in the third on a two-run triple by Zach Gensky, an RBI triple by Will Finch, an error, a two-run double by Perry Worden, an RBI double by Matthew McWilliams, an RBI single by Russell Cook, and an RBI single by Brady Garmon. Gensky racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Eagles. Finch held Barstow hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none, and struck out three.

The SCA Eagles and Heritage Christian traded the lead five times in the semifinals, but the Eagles claimed the victory 7-3 over Heritage Christian Academy. Garmon led the Eagles’ offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He singled in the third and fifth innings. Finch’s eleven strikeouts helped the Eagles to the victory. Finch allowed one earned run on four hits and three walks over seven innings.

The Eagles beat Sherwood 13-3 to win the championship game. The Eagles scored five runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Cook, a walk by Garmon, a hit by pitch, an RBI single by Finch, and a bases loaded walk by David Becerra. Cook racked up three RBIs on two hits. McWilliams struck out 11, paving the way for an Eagles win. McWilliams allowed three earned runs, five hits and two walks over six innings.

“This is the second year in a row for the Eagles to win conference and the sixth out of the last seven as conference champions,” comments Head Coach John Gage. “We are proud of our guys and the way they’ve stepped up with timely hitting and defense and pitching.”

The Eagles will enter the Class 3, District 15 tournament on May 16 as the #1 seed.
