Beyond the Field: SCA Varsity Football Team Surprises Student & Team Cameraman at Concert

The SCA Varsity Football team, dressed in their jersey tops, surprised their cameraman, junior Ben Schwab, recently by attending his Harmony Interfaith Concert cello performance. The team gave Ben a standing ovation after his solo.

(Lee’s Summit) –The Varsity Football team from Summit Christian Academy (SCA) recently took their entire Sunday afternoon to surprise and honor their faithful end zone team cameraman, SCA junior Ben Schwab.

Ben Schwab, a cellist and member of the Kansas City all-district orchestra, ran the SCA varsity football team end zone camera every week to provide game footage for the football team. So on Sunday, November 24, the team decided to surprise Ben at his orchestra concert the day after the team fell in the Class 2 State Quarterfinals.

When Ben took the stage at the 30th annual Harmony Interfaith Concert at White Theatre in Leawood, KS, he looked out to see all of the members of the Varsity football team in the audience, dressed in their SCA Eagle football jerseys. After his cello solo of “Bashana Haba’ah” the SCA varsity football team gave him a standing ovation. Ben was moved and surprised by the entire team acknowledging him in this way.

“Ben is a valuable member of our program,” shared SCA Varsity Football Coach Todd Berck.  “His cold and lonely job on the end zone camera allows us to see and correct mistakes in real time on the sideline during the game. We are a better team each week because of the coverage he provides for us. We wanted to show him how much he means to our program and how much we appreciate him.”

The team was Class 2 District Champions and made it to Class 2 State Quarterfinals, where they ended their season 11-2.
