SCA Actor Wins Second Award for Best Actor at Kansas City Cappies Award Ceremony

SCA’s Korczak’s Children was nominated for Outstanding Performance of a Play and performed a short scene from the play at the 2018-19 Cappies Gala held at Oak Grove High School.

For the second year in a row, SCA Senior John Davis was the winner for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Play for his performance as Dr. Korczak in Korczak’s Children at the 2018-19 annual Kansas City Cappies Award Gala held at Oak Grove High School.

Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is pleased to announce that senior John Davis was the winner for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Play for his performance as Dr. Korczak in Korczak’s Children at the 2018-19 annual Kansas City Cappies Award Gala held at Oak Grove High School. Davis also won the award last year for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock Holmes and the First Baker Street Irregular.  

SCA Theatre also received nominations for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design (senior Katelin Trimmer in Korczak’s Children), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Play (freshman Nathan Compton in Korczak’s Children), Outstanding Critic’s Team, and Outstanding Performance of a Play (Korczak’s Children).

“It’s been a great year for SCA Theatre,” shared SCA Theatre Director Emily Stam. “I am so proud of all our actors and crew, including our Cappies nominees and winner. John and his fellow 2019 graduates have led SCA Theatre with excellence!”

Now in its 16th year in Kansas City, the Kansas City Cappies works with high school theatre students all over the metropolitan area. The season culminates with a grand Gala event, with performances from the top ranked plays and musicals from the season, and awards given for the best performers, technicians, and writers of the year. SCA Theatre is a member of the KC Cappies and the International Thespian Society. The SCA theatre program has two major productions each year, plus One Act performances and an improv team. In addition, SCA offers a variety of theatre classes open to students grades 7-12.
