Elementary Choral Musicians Selected for Inaugural All State Children’s Choir

SCA fifth grade students (left to right) Josie Gillihan, Bella Arroyo, and Elena Michael were selected by blind audition into the inaugural 2020 MMEA All-State Children’s Choir.

(Lee’s Summit) – Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is pleased to announce that three of their elementary students were selected to be a part of the inaugural MMEA (Missouri Music Educators Association) Missouri All-State Children’s Choir, comprised of fourth and fifth grade choral musicians.

5th grade students Josie Gillihan, Bella Arroyo, and Elena Michael submitted “blind” auditions where judges were not made aware of names or schools and selected participants solely on vocal quality and technique.  Nearly 150 students from across Missouri were selected for the inaugural choir, and SCA had the most students from one school participate.

The Children’s Choir participants learned six pieces of music at home with the help of practice tracks.  On January 22, the Choir rehearsed all morning and part of the afternoon with clinician Joshua N. Pedde, artistic director for the Indianapolis Children’s Choir.  Their inaugural performance started off the annual MMEA Conference at the Tan-Tar-A Conference Center in Osage Beach, MO.
