Summit Christian Academy Announces 2020 Teacher of the Year

Summit Christian Academy (SCA) named sixth grade teacher Mrs. Courtney Cox as SCA’s 2020 Teacher of the Year during a virtual school-wide announcement last week.

Parents, students, and staff had the opportunity to nominate a teacher who has shown excellence in fulfilling SCA’s mission to “inspire students to achieve their God-given potential through excellent academics and Christian training in a compassionate environment.”

Thirty-six teachers were nominated, from which seven were selected as finalists. Finalists included sixth grade teacher Mrs. Courtney Cox, kindergarten teacher Mrs. Karen Davis, early education teacher Mrs. Ann Finch, secondary Bible, Chinese, and English for Academic Purposes teacher Mr. Michael Mayor, secondary science teacher Mr. Tim Schwab, secondary Bible teacher Mr. Wayne Stam, and fourth grade teacher Mrs. Trish Teilborg.

Mrs. Cox joined the SCA faculty in 2015.  She is married to Chad and they have three children who attend SCA. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Southwest Baptist University and a Master of Arts degree in Theological Studies from Liberty University.

“I cannot tell you how blessed I was to read the stories and comments our parents, students, faculty, and staff shared in their nominations. We are greatly blessed to have such an amazing faculty,” said SCA Head of School Linda Harrelson.  “Mrs. Cox’ deep love and servant heart is displayed in that she is currently awaiting timing to donate her kidney to a secondary student in need of a kidney transplant.  Courtney found out that she was his match in May, 2019 and will soon donate this life-saving organ to a student she has never had.  Mrs. Cox continuously goes above and beyond for her students and parents in so many ways – educationally, relationally, and spiritually.  We are so pleased to have the opportunity to publicly recognize her.”

Mrs. Cox was presented with a plaque, an SCA designated parking place, and a monetary award.  As SCA’s Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Cox is also a candidate for the Great Plains Alliance of Christian Schools Teacher of the Year.  The GPACS Teacher of the Year will be announced in January 2021.
